FORMICARY

Formicary is an exploration of section and procession. It takes its lead, both in form and in use, after the indefatigable ant. The scale is almost massive, it is best experienced when approached from afar. Upon entering, the experience is more intimate, people can move through vertical sections by stepping up and down as well as through steep ramping. Contours are used to tunnel through and step up with only subtle variations at each interval. Congruent contours allow for wider pathways. Areas of stasis and visual relief are provided by the exposed flat faces of specific sections. The overall experience is not easy, there are certain steps which require one to climb. At the same time, seating is possible in almost every location.
